HFS03 Vintage H. Fred Skaggs massive bezel set
garnet domed sterling H. Fred Skaggs is the epitome of the 'accidental Modernist'. In 1956, Skaggs moved to Scottsdale, Arizona and opened a shop in the Lloyd Kiva Craft Center. He thought he was simply making his jewelry but he inspired an entire generation of celebrated and highly collectible silver artists. Christie Romero's 3rd edition of 'Warman's Jewelry' hails Skaggs as a 'Mid Century Modern Master' and touts Skaggs' influence on Charles Loloma, THE famed Native American silversmith. Loloma credits Fred 'for inspiring him and teaching him to make jewelry'. Skaggs died in 1982 and his widow kept his shop open until just recently when the area became too touristy to do proper honor to the past. Whoever sets eyes on this show-stopping garnet-set bracelet will instantly experience something supremely wonderful. It is FABULOUS!!! The labor-intensive execution is absolute perfection. Each glowing garnet stone has been softly shaped and set in a bezel exactly tailored to its contours. This bracelet's gloriously tactile dimensionality -- from the huge domed top to the convex side panels -- just makes you want to hold it cupped in your hands and savor every aspect. Wear it to transform day or evening into a magical experience! |
