FB001 Vintage Fridl Blumenthal sterling silver
necklace and bracelet; circa 1948 to 1970-ish After fleeing Nazi Germany in 1937, sculptor Fridl Blumenthal came to the Chicago area where, inspired by a book about wire jewelry, she studied under silversmith Anna Halasi. In 1948 she walked a few choice pieces from her portfolio into the Georg Jensen store in New York and immediately received a contract. Later, she designed for Cooper in Philadelphia and Marshall Field in Chicago. Blumenthal’s work is refined, sophisticated and sculptural, showcasing the silver’s soft beauty. This set links abstract birdlike forms etched with tribal niello work in a simple, classic repeating design. Beautifully made and in fabulous condition, these pieces are timeless and look wonderful on. |
