WS025 Exceptionally Rare Vintage William Spratling
sterling silver and rosewood necklace, circa-1940 to 1946 Silver-wrapped, burnished rosewood crescent suspended from a fabulously long, thick and textural handmade silver chain. The genius of this piece lies in its contrasts. Spratling plays the wood's matte silken texture against deeply grooved, sculptural silver wraps and thick ruffled chain links. Color contrasts add impact and elegance: the pendant's dark burnished surface flows from oxblood and deep chocolate into ebony as the wood curves beneath its glowing silver fetters. Touching this is irresistible! Wear this piece many ways; wrap the chain two, three times for layered texture, placing the crescent closer to throat or torso. Now observe each modality's riveting visual effect, and … hey, hands off! Heads-up from The Huntress: this piece gives serious collectors serious thrills!!! |
