This “First Phase” brooch showcases Spratling’s fascination with the motifs of Mexico’s ancient cultures. Stylized jaguars flank a beautiful amethyst quartz cabochon with natural occlusions so prized by collectors of vintage Mexican silver. Applied figures were hand cut rather than die cast, so they carry the individual touch of the craftsman who fabricated the brooch according to Spratling’s exacting design specifications. A nicely proportioned piece with a fascinating motif and rich detail to make an unforgettable personal accent.
