WS001 - Vintage William Spratling 980 silver (a higher grade silver than sterling) and amethyst Moth brooch, circa-1940’s, SOLD Origin: Taxco, Mexico This vintage William Spratling silver moth pin is featured as Plate III-32 in “Mexican Silver” by Morrill and Berk. It dates to 1943 as evidenced by the hallmarks it bears and records kept of design introduction. While many of Spratling’s designs are bold and heavy, this moth pin is graceful and refined, wonderfully representational of Spratling’s attention to detail in depicting nature through the silversmith’s art. A rare piece for a Spratling collector and a lovely work of art to wear and enjoy. |
