The Double Angel design is one of Victoria’s most famous, avidly sought by collectors and spectacular to wear.  Necklace and bracelet are featured as Plate IX-20 in “Mexican Silver” by Morrill and Berk.  Executed in a shadowbox cutout, this important work showcases Victoria’s controlled perfection.  The necklace of this stunning Victoria Taxco silver set dates from the mid ‘40’s, rendering this piece an early version of the Double Angel (design #53).  The sterling necklace measures a generous 16 inches long (unusual for Victoria whose pieces often run small) enabling a sumptuous drape along the base of the neck.  It carries a mellow rich patina.  An old solder repair is evident on the reverse, invisible from the front and in no way detracting from the beauty and integrity of the piece.  The 7 inch long Double Angel sterling silver bracelet bears the eagle stamp, dating it to the late 1940’s to early ‘50’s.  It clasps invisibly by sliding one of the triple balls that separate two of the angel cutout plaques; secured with its original safety chain.   Worn together or individually, this is an opulent and stunning set from a time of huge artistic expression and technical proficiency in Mexico.
