TX012 Vintage Taxco 980 silver necklace; (pre-‘eagle’)
pre-1948 Superbly made necklace created by “RD”, an unidentified silversmith, displaying a repeating repousse motif modeled on a floral design (Xochitl) from the ancient state of Mexico. High-grade (98% pure) silver glows with luminous beauty against oxidized recessed curves. This piece lacks an Eagle mark, indicating a date of manufacture before 1948; the originality of the design, its expert workmanship and high-grade material speak to a probable origin as quality goods from one of Taxco’s many silver shops in the pre-War era. The necklace’s compelling, enigmatic design appeals to the eye and the imagination, connecting Pre-Columbian people, the unknown silver artisan and the modern wearer through a shared aesthetic experience. |
