ST003 Vintage Salvador Teran ‘Taller’ early
mark sterling silver and stone necklace and earrings; circa-1952
to 1955 Smashing 1950’s “atomic” necklace and earrings by Salvador made at the beginning of a decade mark by darkly interconnected themes of war, capitalism and fashion, a zeitgeist explored by beat poet Alan Ginsberg’s Howl. Salvador's quirky take is lighter in spirit, capturing the zany style of a decade that ushered in pencil skirts, spangled cats-eye glasses, cars with enormous tail fins, the bikini, Elvis and rock-n-roll. A huge Salvador atomic pendant, set with either azurite, dangles provocatively amid bristling spear-like forms suspended dramatically at the base of the throat; huge matching earrings explode with unearthly brilliance at the ears. This spectacular suite never fails to provoke a powerful and fascinated response among all beholders. |
