MT090 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling
silver and white speckled enamel multi-layered flower necklace
and brooch; circa-1955 to 1978 With ethereal loveliness, lush white flowers outlined in sterling silver enhance the haunting grace of Margot’s design. Margot’s passion for Japanese block prints is evident in this set’s cool elegance. The artist traveled twice to Japan during the 1950’s, collecting exquisite woodblock prints for her personal library that later informed many of her designs. This set, like all Margot’s enamels, was made from silver poured into a custom-made die with special recesses to hold the enamel, which was applied with tiny brushes to the artist’s exact specifications. The pieces were then fired at extremely high temperatures, to melt the enamel into the silver without melting the silver itself. Afterwards, each piece was hand-buffed, assembled and given a final polish. Uniting Margot’s artistic imagination with the sophistication of the early black-ink, single color Japanese ukiyo-e which inspired it, this set displays a timeless and fascinating allure. |
