MT084 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling
silver and black enamel bracelet and earrings; circa-1955 to
1978 Margot’s playful take on botanical forms shimmers in black enamel and silver paisleys, making elegant foils for wrist and ears. The curls tracing the veins in the leaves recall spiral designs decorating pottery found near the pyramids at Tula, seat of the ancient Toltec empire near Mexico City abandoned sometime in the 12th century. The Aztecs who later occupied these sites regarded the Toltec as master artisans; centuries later Toltec motifs continued to inspire the great silver designs issuing from the leading tallers of Taxco. Margot’s playful spiraling fronds lend a graceful dynamism to this set’s curving lines. With its understated interplay of black and silver, its ancient motif rendered afresh through Margot’s chic and Modernist eye, this smart mid-century set turns heads wherever it’s worn! |
