MT079 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling
silver and enamel ‘Mod’ necklace, bracelet, earrings
and detachable brooch; circa-1955 to 1978 Zen modernism as done by Margot de Taxco. Gleaming curves of ebony, copper, wheat, and creamy white enamel punctuated by silver dots entwine harmoniously in a Yin/Yang design. According to Eastern philosophy, the universe and everything in it is impermanent: the only constant is change. One force dominates for a time, then it decays and is replaced by an opposing force. These countervailing forces swirl cyclically and push against one another. As yin swells in size and height, yang begins to emerge. As yang reaches its zenith, yin emerges once again in a never-ending cycle. Margot conceived this lovely design in the mid-1950’s at the peak of her fascination with Asian art and philosophy; her drawings and technical specifications appear as plate XVI-11 in Morrill and Berk’s Mexican Silver, page 171. In excellent condition, this classic ensemble is a knockout to wear, and a coup for serious collectors. |
