MT067 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling silver
and small amethyst quartz cabochon bracelet; circa-1948 to 1978
This bracelet’s enchanting lacelike effect is enhanced by its delicate proportions. Elaborate beaded edges adorn the curving wings of a butterfly like design, with the body of the insect accented by a tiny purple amethyst cabochon. The butterfly was an important motif in Mayan iconography, representing near and distant ancestors returning for a visit to physicality as a sign of universal consciousness. This includes all of our physical ancestors: human, animal, reptile, fish, shell fish, plants and single-celled beings as well as the Supreme Consciousness which organized the universe’s raw material from a whirling disk into stars and then planets and solar systems. The butterfly motif was later adapted by Toltec weavers as a pattern for blankets. Wearing this ethereally beautiful bracelet becomes an inspirational act, as it communicates one's readiness to reach out and actively join the consciousness of our galaxy. |
