MT058 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling silver
panel belt and matching earrings, circa 1950s Margot's exquisite beaded shell design re-interprets Mayan iconography to spectacular effect, blending influences of colonial Spain with Art Nouveau. The shell was an important symbol in Mayan art and mathematics, symbolizing completion of one cycle and the start of a new cycle. Margot's repousse belt is a showstopper with fanlike scallop shells flanked by elegant beaded columns, curls and domes. Looks fabulous encircling the waist, and guaranteed to turn heads! The huge matching earrings are drop-dead-gorgeous. Workmanship to die for on all pieces. This is Margot at her best, in complete command of her art with a peerless design, rarely seen today, executed flawlessly as a stunning ensemble. |
