MT051 Vintage Margot de Taxco sterling silver oxidized panel necklace, circa-1950s to 1960s Design 5100 marks the very first of Margot’s independent creations, her breakaway from Los Castillo. And what an electrifying design!!!! A twisting, textured oxidized center piece outlined with crisp silver borders drapes itself sinuously and licks up the curve of the neck like some Pre-Columbian snake deity. Xoneculli, the blue snake of the ancients, signified purification and appears on the ceremonial staff of Quetzalcoatl. This deity ushers in the cleansing that takes place before renewal and self-transformation. Margot's departure from Los Castillo signaled the start of a brilliant independent career and the dawn of her world-recognized artistic genius. This is a dramatic early piece, personal inspiration with a powerful presence. |
