Delightful MATL folk art cross embellished with coral, turquoise and amethyst, edged with applied wire loops and spirals, on a vintage chain. Mexican folk art, from which Poulat drew inspiration, blends Spanish Catholicism’s arabesque adornment with indigenous visual traditions of stylized symbols and bright, exuberant colors. Poulat, like many artists of the ‘20’s and ‘30’s who began exploring Mexico’s unique artistic heritage, found a refreshing honesty in the folk culture that is similar to Mexican food: piquant, appetizing, delicious. These delightful MATL crosses bridge ancient and modern visual traditions with a language of mystical beauty that touches all beholders.
