MA001 Manuel Altamirano sterling silver ‘Armadillo’ cuff
bracelet; circa-1940s; SOLD Exuding tough chic, this bold cuff is a standout example of the ‘Armadillo’ design originally conceived by Valentin Vidaurreta during his tenure with Hector Aguilar. Later, Aguilar allowed master silversmith Manuel Altamirano to copy it, and here Altamirano does justice to the piece. All versions of the ‘Armadillo’ are highly sought-after and for good reason: the look is dynamite!!!!! An Armadillo cuff made by Altamirano is pictured in Plate IV-91 in Penny C. Morrill’s Silver Masters of Mexico, along with other pieces from the suite. Rare and versatile design that goes from casual to dressed-up elegance. Collector and museum quality. |
