LC022 Vintage Los Castillo sterling silver
pendant necklace; circa 1950’s to 1960’s;
SOLD Two artistic influences converge here to striking effect: Antonio Pineda’s 1950’s niello cutout figures and Salvador Teran’s hallmark accents to the heads of the figures…Salvador having worked for Los Castillo before striking out on his own. This graceful Los Castillo necklace looks extraordinary on, and it wears so comfortably you’ll forget you have it on! Interpretation of the tableau scene is certainly up for grabs, but the Huntress likes to imagine the possibilities. A man and woman meet hiking near a river, he with his walking stick and she with her faithful canine companion: the meeting is “Kismet.” Or perhaps we are witnessing an age old relationship issue – he gives her an eloquent gesture while she suggests the only thing big about him is the stick he is carrying. “Man’s best friend” decides not to take sides. However one views it, the spare elegance of this versatile Modernist piece will complement many looks and occasions. |
