Taxco / Mexican Vintage Jewelry

FD005 Vintage Fred Davis sterling silver multi-dimensional bracelet, (pre-‘eagle’) circa-1930s to 1948
Origin: Mexico City, Mexico
Dimensions: 7” x 1.18” x .63” thick; 83.9 gm
Condition: Very good – dents can be found on approximately 7 prongs ... none so deep or distracting to warrant repair/restoration.
Provenance: Private Collection
Price: $1,400.00

Davis’ massive bear claw bracelet curves around the wrist like a shamanic totem, its bold presence projecting self-confidence and power. Mexican folk art informed much of Fred Davis’ work. The bear embodies inner strength to both Native American tribes of the Southwest and to Zapotec folk artists who incorporated it into the accomplished weaving for which they became known in Davis’ day. A must-have for serious collectors, first-rate Davis pieces are now becoming scarce. This is an exceptional, eye-arresting piece, conceived with an audacious modernity. With its time-burnished patina, this commanding bracelet is a statement piece for one who enjoys owning her power.
