AP010 Vintage Antonio Pineda 970 silver and obsidian bracelet, circa-1950s Antonio's assertively Modernist bracelet encloses gold-flecked obsidian stones within sculptural arches, combining lightness with massive size. This design is featured on page 148, Plate XII-17 of “Mexican Silver” by Penny Morrill and Carole Berk. A sophisticated statement executed with Antonio's trademark precision …witness the clasp blended invisibly with the design. This bracelet invites the play of light and shadow on the wrist to dramatic effect. Angled to the sun, the stones mesmerize with shimmering gold flecks shifting to a deep, mirror-finish black. The shifting energy of obsidian has inspired artist, healer and shaman. Gold sheen obsidian was especially favored for "gazing." It draws forth the wearer's inner beauty, protecting while providing the deep insight needed for problem-solving. The energies of obsidian are said to produce blunt answers, stimulating a sudden vision of the required course of action. Antonio certainly connected with all these energies when he envisioned this iconic and sophisticated design. |
